If you are only Lvl 17.. Just keep playing until you get to the desert and after managing to ascend working in Droknar's Forge and beyond.. once you hit that point the picnic of the earlier areas is over.
If you want to know what its like after you ascend and get to the point where Anet says the game is just starting.. Try going through Lornar's Pass out of Beacon's Perch.

It's not just a lie, problem is people keep the level at the front of their minds. In this game level should be your least of concerns and fun should be primary. Consider everything up to 20 and ascention training, the game is 20+.

Sounds corny, but I'm serious. It gets much harder after ascention. You really need to start thinking about what and how you do things. And then even after you beat the game missions, they once again up the challenge with the Underworld and Fissure of Woe. Consider youself lucky, I got bored with FFXI before my free month ended. I was mostly dissappointed in FFXI though because it didnt have that great feeling FF games have a way of giving the player. I didnt feel the immersion in the mmo world of FF like I did in the single player games.
I played EQOA for almost two years, you grind grind grind your way to 50, do your epic quests, and then camp the big mobs for months sometimes. Then expansion hits and way more grinding. I'm personally so burnt out on grinding mmo's this is a huge relief for me personally.
I think the appeal to this game vs the other mmo's is that, if you take a break from the typical mmo's, in fact any other mmo, you get left behind. Here if you take a break, you aren't behind. Sure you may be missing one elite spell whoopideedoo, or a sword that has a whopping 4 more damage and 20 more health, again big deal. Take the break if you need it, this game will still be here when you get back to play around again.

Going from 1-20 is an adventure on its own, but the content designed specifically for full teams of level 20 characters is something different. Instead of being able to run missions with characters above the level of the area to make it easier, the game after level 20 is made to really challenge you. It becomes more about skill and less about overpowering the enemy. That's also the appeal people have in keeping the level cap at 20 for future expansions. Its not just PvP that's balanced for it, there's loads of PvE stuff balanced for level 20 characters.
In most other games, getting to the max level is like finishing that character. In Guild Wars, its just the start of a new set of challenges

Yeah, who cares about leveling up? If that's what you want grab a Final Fantasy game.
Once you hit level 20, the 'rewards' of game play start to mean alot less- xp gets you very little, and you probably already have more gold than you'll ever need. The point of the game is the gameplay and the strategy... not the carrot at the end of the stick.

I don't think having more gold than you need is possible in Guild Wars. The 15 000/piece armour is a drain on ones finances.

So did I, for around a year and I see what you mean about it getting boring.
I got to level 83, and in the end I just found myself standing around in banks..
Guild Wars has a lot of content for ascended characters, including elite skills, so many explorable areas, guild activities and of course..PvP.
Then you can see how often A.net is updating the game, they are constantly creating new areas (As is evident from their new movie of that..underground place, of which the name eludes me. )
I can see that once the less mature players drop off the game, it is only going to get better..so just bear with them, and recieve consolation in the fact that they will most likely get bored of the lack of "ganking" and "0ob3r lewtz" and leave soon enough.
(Sorry for the grammar, or lack thereof in this post..but it's late in England, and I can barely keep my eyes open. )

Please, this is the prototypical condescending line that is being used over and over on these forums. Look around you people. A good 35-40% of people here (if not higher) is already bored with this game. The game is only 1 month old. Get the picture? Big difference between "I got bored after 2 years" and "I got bored after 1 month". You will be spouting this crap up until you yourself are bored... about a month from now or have 2 ascended characters. Then, suddenly you will become one of those "less mature players" according to someone else. Except the number of those who are less mature, will keep getting higher and higher......

I did not mean that everyone who leaves is immature, I'm just saying that a lot of the 13 year old "|337 Pkz0Rz" will become bored with the lack of ganking and showing off to "n0obs" in this game and drop out.
I admit that this game has it's problems, as do most online rpg's, but this one is new and is still getting a lot more content..so these problems are slowly disappearing.
To the people who are bored..I say just leave, or find a second game to play alongside this one.
I, myself play a second mmorpg (although, recently my character has become somewhat neglected. ) because I see that whilst Guild Wars is a great game, in it's current state it will not keep my undivided attention for more than a few months. (Although, future updates and expansions may remedy this problem.)

I think the point Mimu was trying to make was that many of the less mature players are those who bore easily in general (of any game), and those will probably be among the first to stop playing, which is a good thing. What I don't understand about your post is why a mature player who treats other people with respect would suddenly turn into someone abusive after becoming bored. I would think a mature player would probably just say goodbye to friends and leave. The attitude I get from your post is that since you are bored of this game, then everyone else must be deluding themselves, please correct me if i'm wrong. If this is the case, maybe you should consider that not everyone likes the same thing, and your tastes do not apply to every person who plays. Percentages mean jack. If 99.9% of people who play a game hate it, and I enjoy it, why should I have to stop playing to conform with the percentage?

it can be quite boring around there as the hardness of some of the misson makes you want to stop trying them. I remember trying to ascend....

this the first online rpg iv played, i did the beta for matrix online, that was shit, GW is done well, with 36 different character combo's to do, you got alot of gaming until you really finish this game, this game is fun, i just reached lvl 20 on my first char, as i started like 4 chars at once, there all deleted now ^^ anyway just sayin this seems like a game that is not ment to be played like EQ, so dont play it lke that or it will last only a month. have another game on the side, i have GW, CS 1.6, CS: S.

Well technically the game starts when you are lvl 20s. you can go the Hall of Heros and participate GVG battles(well you still can do it under lvl20, but you just get killed alot).
